History

2025 Q1

Organization Founded

IFO4 established as an international standards organization for Financial Operations. Governing Board constituted. Three Technical Committees formed: TC 1 (Professional Standards), TC 2 (Cloud Financial Management), and TC 3 (Education and Certification).

2025 Q2

First Standards Suite Published

Publication of the foundational standards: PRISM (IFO4 40100:2025) for professional identity, GCCF (IFO4 40200:2025) for cloud financial management, CFOL CBK Volume 1 (IFO4 40300:2025) for foundational knowledge, and CFOP Examination Blueprint (IFO4 40310:2025).

2025 Q3

Advanced Certifications in Development

TC 3 begins development of CFO+ and CFOA examination blueprints for advanced and architect-level certifications. Call for expert participation issued.

How Standards Are Developed

IFO4 standards are developed through a systematic, consensus-based process modeled on international standards body governance practices. The process ensures that standards are technically sound, broadly accepted, and reflect the needs of the global FinOps community.

Each standard progresses through defined lifecycle stages, from initial proposal through committee drafting, public comment, formal ballot, and publication. This process ensures transparency and broad participation.

All IFO4 standards are published as open standards with free access, reflecting our commitment to advancing the FinOps profession globally.
